I am ecstatic about this challenge! Right now I'm sniffing around, collecting my books. I'm still not sure what I'll read, so here's a list of what I will probably be tackling:
Literature
Beowulf
The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer
The Decameron, by Giovanni Boccaccio
Mabinogion
Nibelungenlied
Piers Plowman, by William Langland
The Song of Roland
Philosophy
The Prince, by Niccolo Machiavelli
Romance
The Lais of Marie de France
Le Morte d'Arthur (The Death of Arthur), by Sir Thomas Mallory
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
Yvain: The Knight of the Lion, by Chretien de Troyes
Travel
The Travels of Marco Polo, by Rustichello da Pisa
Women
The Book of the City of Ladies, by Christine de Pizan
*
I will make detailed posts for some of these, so wait for them!
I would love to read the Eddas but I hope I can read the originals sometime, so I'll just put them on hold. There are so many extra books (on this list or not) that I'd like to read but I think these would be more than enough for 2012. Chretien de Troyes, you've been sitting idle on my bookcase for too long! I'm coming for you!
